Tornado EOS has a free app and a paid one. With the paid one it is possible to unlock language restriction and GPS/WiFi.Canon’s recommended way to check a camera’s shutter count is to send it into their facility. The only reliable method to check the shutter count is to have our Factory Service Center do it for you. Technically yes, the shutter could have been replaced and the technician did not "reset" the internal counter, it does not automatically do so when you do the repair, you have to change that number in proprietary software. I used Tornado recently. On a 6D-II the shutter count and total was only 852 (I've hardly used that cam at all). The mirror count and total was 766. On a 5D-IV the shutter / mirror was 19636 / 18764. On another 5D-IV 20486 / 19267. On a 5DS-R 47344 / 47269.
A "good" shutter count varies depending on the camera model. Entry-level and mid-range DSLR cameras typically have a shutter count rating between 100,000 and 200,000, while professional-grade cameras can range between 400,000 and 500,000. When purchasing a second-hand camera, it's best to choose one with shutter count well below its rating.
You get the app Shuttercount, open it, plug this cable into your phone, then the USB cable into this cable and attach your camera and turn it on. The Model, ser#, Owners name, Shutter Count (4425), and Shutter Wear, mine was 4%. So far this is the best way I have found, yes I stressed finding out what it was, but I just wanted to know.
What should the shutter count be? I would expect it to be some low number. But, do not be surprised if the number is over 100. Some models can grab lots of frames per second and testing that functionality can run up the mechanical shutter count. As for reading the actual shutter count goes, it was pretty simple with DSLRs.
